  • Overview

    As a Superintendent you will be responsible for 4 to 5 ships in the Fleet of Ship Management Europe – Deepsea Fleet or Ship Management Inter-European – Shortsea Fleet.


    Your main task will be to consistently, maintain the standards of safety, performance and condition required by the company at the most effective costs.


    You will manage and support the Ship Management Team members, motivate and coach them to maintain a high safety standard combined with efficiency and positive cost control.


    • Ensure that tanker management policy and procedures are implemented and effectively used by SMT under there management.
    • Manage the dry-docking of the ship in accordance with the Company's Policy and Procedures.
    • Support the ship in achieving its performance and condition standards by providing technical guidance.
    • Develop the annual Ships budget and 5 yearly drydock budget  in conjunction with the SMT and  Fleet Manager.
    • Monitor performance against budget or other management targets in conjunction with the SMT and report to management on the status of these budgets.
    • Visit the vessel at least twice per year , verify and evaluate the performance and condition of the ship and its SMT.
    • Reviewing the latest vetting and audit reports, as well as personal observations that the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems are in place and functioning properly.
    • Share knowledge and experience with other Superintendents, departments and the Service Team, to optimize the company safety records and thus its results.


    • 5 years seagoing experience with a minimum of 2 in senior officer and/or 2 years’ experience as superintendent.  The seagoing experience may be waived provided other relevant experience like shipyard and/or new-building site work has been performed.
    • Committed to maintain and promote the Company safety culture.
    • Broad general knowledge of shipping and environmental laws and regulations.
    • Decision making and leadership skills.
    • Ability to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in written form.
    • Ability to effectively manage, work and deal with people from multi ethnic background.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks and good organizational skills.
    • Ability to work in a team and inter-departmental.
    • Commitment to work outside office hours.
    • Willing to travel frequently and has the ability to travel worldwide.
    • Proficient in MS Office applications and ability to pick up quickly on specialized software if required.
