The Engineering Applications & Connectivity Specialist is responsible for taking ownership of all engineering and operational applications on managed ships. Creating and maintaining an environment that will facilitate data streams on-board managed ships and between these ships and shore, in a secure way.


  • Manage and maintain all ships engineering and operational applications. Be the single point of contact (SPOC) for equipment firmware and software updates.

  • Manage and maintain access to critical engineering applications. Set clear access rights bases user authority, needs and risks.

  • Safety and effectiveness needs to be fundamental in all activities. Create a MoC for any new project or changes to existing procedures, installations or software. Identify risks and implement mitigating measures.

  • Identify and arrange for connectivity/data streams that will increase safety, efficiency or transparency for the organization.

  • Ensure that all operating systems utilized for the engineering or operational applications are up to date and secure, prior to introducing connectivity. Support/follow up on Maker service letter/bulletin related to equipment software/firmware amendments. (cybersecurity).

  • Maintain a life cycle/obsolescence plan for personal computer (PC’s) type of equipment onboard. Ensure that the details for this equipment is correctly entered into the planned maintenance system and that warrantee and replacement periods are set.

  • Manage and maintain ship specific operational applications as appointed. Assist others with lifecycle management of the equipment and its connectivity once approved. This for but not limited to navigation and communication related software and hardware.
  • As appointed, coordinate electrical projects in line with the company approved equipment, makers and suppliers.

  • Be known with technological developments and its possible value for the organization. Prepare utilization and implementation plans for further development.

  • Support in evaluation and reporting regarding electrical equipment and installations for ships in service and new buildings, review and make recommendations to E&A Manager.


  • Technical education (Electro Mechanical).
  • Courses in automation and IT network architecture preferred.
  • Work experience with electrical installations onboard tankers for minimum three (3) years.
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to effectively manage, work and deal with people from multi ethnic background.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and good organizational skills.
  • Decision making and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to work outside office hours.
  • Willing to travel frequently and has the ability to travel worldwide, including the U.S.A.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
